Kea, Nestor Notabilis, adult peering into the camera

I took this photo on one of several week long trips into the Southern Alps. I had located a site where I was in natural mountainous surroundings but also where a large group of kea visited fairly regularly for forgaing. Kea are notoriously curious, and this one took an interest in my camera lens, allowing me to crawl in closer and closer until his bill was almost touching the glass. Kea are one of a few animals that are known to be self-aware, so he was possibly checking his appearance in the reflection.
